hand washing

Since the first H1N1 outbreak, people became familiarized with hand washing instructions in restrooms. I found a couple of differences between the content of such informative boards in Portugal and Belgium.

In Belgium (the KU Leuven):

maosbeSummary: water + soap + rub + water + dry.

Implicit message: “It’s so damn simple, just do it already!”

Portugal (issued by Government, found all over the place):
maosptSummary: water + soap + rubbing movement #1 + rubbing movement #2 + rubbing movement #3 + rubbing movement #4 + rubbing movement #5 + rubbing movement #6 + water + dry.

Implicit message: “… or the next flu pandemics is on YOU!”

  1. Don’t be fooled. I found a bottle of liquid hand cleaning gel in the university hospital. It had a reference and a DOI next to the pictograms.
